Causes of caries turning into pulpitis

Everyone tries to monitor the status and health of their teeth and gums. Self-confidence, a beautiful smile and general well-being depend on it. Dentists recommend a visit to the dentist every six months, even if nothing seems to be wrong. A preventive examination of the oral cavity helps to prevent the development of caries, inflammation and tooth loss.Everyone is confronted with caries. But not everyone knows that caries can develop into pulpitis, which can lead to serious diseases of the oral cavity and tooth loss.

Types of caries

The mouth is home to a variety of microbes that secrete acid that destroys tooth enamel and causes caries.

Dentistry distinguishes between different stages of caries.

  1. First. A small spot appears on the tooth, which does not cause pain. With proper treatment, the prognosis is good and the tooth can be saved completely.
  2. Superficial. The treatment of caries has been ignored by the patient and the spot on the enamel has already reached a considerable size with the formation of a carious cavity.
  3. Medium. At this stage, the caries has penetrated deep into the hard tissue. The tooth begins to react to cold, hot, sweet, sour and other irritants.
  4. Deep. At this stage of the disease there is a constant sharp or aching pain.

If the tooth is not treated, the inflammation will reach the nerve. The pain becomes constant and is not always relieved by painkillers.

Unfortunately, caries and pulpitis can affect children as well as adults. The disease can develop in baby teeth and, if left untreated, can lead to the destruction of the molars. Caries and pulpitis develop more quickly in children than in adults. This is why it is important to see a dentist in time to stop the inflammatory process and save the tooth.

Types of pulpitis and their symptoms

The main cause of pulpitis is untreated caries. It can be reversible or irreversible. In the first case, the tooth can be saved. For this, the dentist uses medication and does not remove the nerve. In irreversible pulpitis, the root canals are opened and the nerve is removed.

Symptoms of reversible pulpitis include:

  • inflammation of the gums;
  • tooth sensitivity to cold, hot;
  • sensitivity to sweet foods.

Irreversible pulpitis has different symptoms:

  • poor general health;
  • enlarged lymph nodes;
  • the development of an unpleasant odour in the mouth.

If you have at least one of the above symptoms, you should see a doctor immediately. If you ignore treatment, you could not only lose a tooth, but also face serious complications.

Treatment of pulpitis

The treatment of pulpitis depends on the stage of the disease. If caries becomes pulpitis in the early stages, it is sufficient to diagnose the oral cavity, remove the source of the inflammation and fill the tooth. If the inflammation has reached the nerve, complete removal of the pulp (nerve) is necessary. However, with timely treatment in a dental clinic, the tooth can be saved.

Do not neglect the health of your teeth and oral cavity, go to the dentist and he will help you to keep a beautiful smile and health.
