Lingual bracket system: indications for use

This method of braces treatment can help if you need to correct a bite or abnormal misalignment of teeth in the most inconspicuous way possible. In general, braces can only be worn if the adult or child has all permanent teeth present.

Among the reasons that may be a contraindication are:

• the presence of inflammatory processes in the gum (periodontitis, gingivitis, etc.);
• there is an allergic reaction to the components of the braces;
• the patient has a narrow jaw;
• twisted teeth;
• bruxism.

Installation of a lingual bracket system

The installation of braces requires special preparation, which takes quite a long time. Here are the basic steps in the process:

1. Preliminary oral hygiene - wearing an orthodontic structure, which complicates dental hygiene, takes a long time, so a thorough cleaning of teeth from plaque and tartar, treatment of gums and installation of quality fillings is the most important stage prior to the placement of braces.
2. X-ray - diagnosis is necessary to determine the cause of bite defects, the anatomy of the jaw, and the best placement of the braces.
3. Making impressions - the quality of this task determines the accuracy of the placement of locks, plates and arches and thus the efficiency of treatment. 4;

Fabrication of an internal bracket system from the impression data - first the hypoallergenic braces are made and then the arch is produced in which the bite will be corrected.

1. Installation of the system - a complicated process taking at least 2-3 hours, all the elements of the structure are fitted according to the model sent from the laboratory. Using a special material, a brace is attached and an arch is set. First, the restoration is placed on the lower jaw, and after some time, on the upper jaw. This makes it easier for the patient to get used to wearing the brace, adjust to speaking and eating. Usually it takes at least a month to fully get used to the internal braces.
2. Treatment monitoring. To achieve the desired results, the patient needs to visit the doctor regularly to monitor the process of bite modification, making adjustments if necessary, replacing the arches and ligatures. In addition, the doctor will closely monitor the condition of the teeth.
3. Fixation of results. After the braces are taken, it is necessary to fix the effect obtained, so the patient has to wear special retention mouth guards and place a retainer on the inside of the teeth. The braces prevent the teeth from shifting and allow them to be held in position. The doctor decides how long the braces are to be worn, usually anywhere from 1 to 6 months. In some cases, it is not recommended to take them off even at night. The retainer will have to be worn for about five years, and in some cases the doctor prescribes lifelong use of the device.

Recommendations for hygiene during brace treatment

Your orthodontist will probably give you plenty of advice on how to maintain your orthodontic treatment on your own. One such recommendation is proper oral hygiene. This is a very important part of the treatment. Unfortunately, nature has not provided such an option as wearing braces or invisible mouth guards, so the natural cleaning of the mouth is made very difficult. Plaque and harmful bacteria begin to accumulate around the braces. The result is demineralization and deterioration of the enamel. If you neglect your oral hygiene during this period, at best the removal of braces will leave white, chalky spots on your teeth that spoil your esthetics. At worst, deep decay and gum problems will occur.

It is important to know that after the placement of braces, oral hygiene should be more frequent and thorough. After having a lingual brace system installed, you will need a special oral hygiene kit. Such a kit will contain special brushes, dental floss, pastes, and rinses that will be indispensable aids in cleaning your braces. Proper hygiene will allow the treatment with these braces to be comfortable and effective.
