Removal of the dental nerve
The tooth nerve (or pulp, as dentists call it) is a connective tissue with a mass of blood vessels and nerve endings. It controls the flow of nutrients into the hard dental tissue, allows us to feel pain and know that something is wrong with the tooth. Without the pulp, the tooth is more vulnerable due to the fact that it does not receive the required amount of useful micronutrients. However, in the presence of certain pathologies, we can't do without its extraction (depulpation). Our clinic practices a quick and painless removal of the tooth nerve. Below we will look at this procedure in a little more detail.
Modern pulping - no more pain or fear
In Napoleon's time, the emperor's court physician treated his pulpitis with arsenic. The main task of Carlo Buonaparte was not to swallow the life-threatening poison, which the doctor applied to the inflamed area.
In today's world, nerve extraction has long been a quick and safe procedure, and teeth without a pulp function properly for many years. All the fears and horrors you may have heard about the process have long since become relics of the past. Thanks to innovative technology, it is now possible.
As it was then
Nerve removal used to follow a certain algorithm.
- The same arsenic was used to "kill" the pulp. It was put on the nerve and covered with a temporary filling. In general, this procedure with the use of poison had a negative effect on the body.
- A "dead" nerve was removed without anesthesia. "Freezing" was performed only in the case of complete pulping.
Among other things, fillings were placed without any X-rays. The fillings were made of zinc-phosphate and the overall quality of the treatment was not at the highest level.
How is it now
At this point the situation is fundamentally different.
- Special arsenic-free pastes are used to destroy the pulp. They are not harmful to your health.
- All operations are performed using high quality anesthetics.
Before and after the procedure, the patient undergoes x-ray of the root canals (to monitor the quality of the filling). The material used is a flexible and durable gutta-percha. It fills the root canals perfectly.
Indications for pulping
Nerve removal is an extraordinary step that we try to avoid in every possible way, but in some cases, depulling is a mandatory procedure.
It is performed in the following cases:
- Periodontitis;
- Deep decay;
- Destruction of the tooth, which has exposed the nerve.
In large carious cavities, lesions can reach the nerve, which may lead to pulpitis.
There are also contraindications to pulping:
- Tuberculosis in the open form;
- Stomatitis;
- Viral hepatitis.
Also removal of the dental nerve is not carried out in case of viral infections.
How does the procedure of dental nerve extraction work?
The first step is always diagnosis, which includes X-rays, visual examination, and a freeze test.
Then the removal of the dental nerve is performed in stages:
- the patient is given an anesthetic injection to avoid any discomfort during the manipulation (before the injection, the injection site is treated with an anesthetic gel);
- the enamel layer damaged by caries is removed;
- with the help of a special device, depulpation is performed;
- then the treatment, enlargement of the root canals and their subsequent filling is performed.
Finally, the crown is restored. After the material has hardened in the root canals, a permanent filling is placed.
The steps described above are identical in all cases where nerve extraction is required, regardless of which teeth are shown to be pulped (molars, anterior teeth). For wisdom teeth, the pulp is removed in a similar way, but it is rarely used due to the complexity of the procedure because of the curvature of the canals of the "octahedrons".
Why contact us
Our dental clinic strictly follows international protocols for dental nerve extraction procedures. Thanks to this any complications after the depulling are excluded.
In the process we use modern high-quality anesthetics and all manipulations do not cause pain or discomfort to patients. For patients suffering from dental phobia (dentophobia), sedation is offered, which will help the patient to undergo the process in a calm, relaxed state.
If you would like to make an appointment at our clinic, please fill out the simple form on our website. For consultations call us at the contact phone number or write us on messenger.
At the first consultation, the doctor will tell you in detail about which teeth need to be treated first, about the condition of your gums and about which design you need to choose in order to fill in the missing teeth.
About what actions and manipulations need to be carried out. Learn how to take good care of your mouth so you don't have to go to the dentist as often as possible.
After discussing the above aspects, your dentist will draw up a treatment plan, guide you by the stages, timing, cost of the upcoming treatment, make, if necessary, computer diagnostics of the teeth and make an appointment for you at a convenient time for you to start treatment.
It is worth restoring a lost tooth as early as possible, because delaying such a process can lead to unpleasant health consequences and undesirable costs in the future.
Patients who seek help for tooth loss too late unwittingly start the process of destruction of other adjacent teeth, because the load during chewing is not evenly distributed.
Dental implantation is one of the most reliable and effective procedures that allows you to restore one or more teeth.
The method of dental implantation is now very popular, because it helps patients to restore lost teeth both in the upper and lower jaws without grinding pine teeth, which is always carried out during prosthetics (crowns).
With implantation, the number of lost teeth does not matter. Dental implantation is considered to be the only right way out of care for everyone, because the healing rate of implants today is over 99%!
