Diversity of bridges
Bridges are non-removable structures that consist of an artificial tooth with inlays and clasps. They can have one or more crowns. Bridges are fixed to nearby supporting teeth or implants.
Our clinic offers the most affordable price for dental bridges depending on the type of orthodontic structure and materials used. We employ qualified dentists who provide patients with a wide range of services, from treatment of teeth and gums to the placement of bridges.
Variety of bridges
According to the materials used, dental bridges are divided into:
- metal;
- metal-ceramic;
- plastic;
- ceramic.
Metal structures are not used in modern dentistry because of their unattractive appearance. They are uncomfortable to use, often cause allergic reactions in patients, are heavy and cause discomfort. However, they allow inexpensive restoration of chewing function in the absence of one or more teeth.
Metal-ceramic dental prostheses are highly durable and aesthetically pleasing. They look the same as natural teeth. They can be placed for both front and chewing teeth. However, their heavy weight can cause discomfort and their metal base can show through.
Plastic teeth are considered the most affordable in price, but they are not as strong and resistant to mechanical stress. They are not used as chewing teeth because they are too brittle to withstand the strain. These bridges are usually used as temporary crowns while the orthodontist makes the permanent prosthesis.
Ceramic prostheses are the most common and popular. They are hypoallergenic, durable and safe. They do not cause allergic reactions or discomfort to patients and look like natural teeth.
Methods of dental prostheses manufacture
Dental prostheses may be manufactured according to the following:
- stamped;
- cast;
- adhesive.
The most practical, according to orthodontists, are adhesive models consisting of a retainer and a crown. Their placement does not require any special preparation by grinding the neighbouring teeth. However, such systems should not be overused and patients should avoid hard foods in their diet. Adhesive prostheses are made of porcelain, metal-ceramic, plastic and light-copolymer filling material. A glass fibre band is used to secure the prosthesis to the neighbouring teeth.
Stamped bridges are not in great demand. They are available in iron, silver and gold. They can also be all-metal, combined, sprayed or clad. Such structures are recommended for the destruction of teeth that cannot be filled. They can also be placed in cases of pathological enamel wear, abnormal teeth shape, to create a support under a bridge, or for splinting teeth.
There are also a number of contraindications to their placement:
- advanced stage of periodontal disease;
- presence of tumours in the oral cavity;
- allergies to materials of manufacture.
In addition, they should not be fitted in the case of pregnancy, gum disease, malocclusion, mental disorders, exacerbation of chronic diseases.
The advantages of stamped crowns are:
- rapid manufacturing;
- possibility of attaching them to healthy teeth;
- low cost;
- minimum tooth grinding.
Cast crowns are made by casting in moulds. They are used to restore single teeth. The main material used is a metal alloy. Thanks to the precise one-step casting process, they follow the anatomical shape of the tooth and fit snugly against the gum, preventing food particles from accumulating underneath the structures.
Their advantages are:
- low thickness;
- durability - up to 25 years;
- possibility to apply an aesthetic cladding;
- affordable price.
Cast crowns are used for prosthetic bridges on chewing teeth as they are not aesthetically pleasing. On the other hand, they are strong and durable. With an additional ceramic or plastic cladding on the front, they can also be used on anterior teeth.
The main indications for the use of cast crowns are:
- more than 60% destruction of the tooth;
- abnormal position of the tooth;
- inability to build up teeth;
- pathological wear of the enamel.
Cases where installation is not recommended:
- advanced periodontitis;
- allergic reactions to the material of manufacture;
- hypersensitivity of the teeth.
