Contraindications to resection
This procedure is not performed when:
- obstruction of the root canals of healthy teeth;
- paradontosis with severe exposure of the tooth neck;
- paradontitis with tooth mobility.
Resection is also not performed in patients suffering from chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart failure, cancer, etc.
How the resection procedure is performed
First of all, the patient is X-rayed. With the help of this equipment it is possible to identify the size of the mass, its location relative to the anatomy, etc.
Then the resection is performed according to the following algorithm:
- injection with an anesthetic;
- detachment of the gum tissue flap;
- cutting off the area of the root affected by the infection;
- retrograde filling of the root canals of the tooth.
The patient is then stitched, and the stitches are removed after 7 days. Resection is performed under local anesthesia, the surgeon cuts the gum and cuts off the root affected by the infection. The doctor can get to the root canal and fill it so that harmful bacteria cannot access it and re-infection does not occur. On the root side, a retrograde filling is done to speed up tissue repair. The incision is then sutured.
This procedure has only one disadvantage - the anatomical integrity of the root of the tooth is violated. Because of this, its functional performance may be somewhat reduced.
